Chapter One
Six months after he shot and killed his former lover who kidnapped and defiled his daughter, Dr. Zack Winston paused at the entrance to the infirmary at the medium security state prison in Hagerstown, MD.
He wore standard issue prison garb: an orange one-piece coverall that had become more baggy from his weight loss during his six-month incarceration. Albeit early morning, Zack sweat from the persistent, oppressive heat and humidity that pervaded the aging gray concrete structure in early August.
Zack took three deep breaths and rehearsed his role in the infirmary.
Not an emergency physician. An inmate assigned as a medical technician.
